Kim Ki Whang

Kim Ki Whang (1920 – September 16, 1993), likewise referred to in the United States as Ki Whang 
Kim, was a Korean hand to hand fighting grandmaster. He was Chairman in the US of the Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan Association, Chairman of the US Olympic Taekwondo group 1988 and bound together a few Korean hand to hand fighting into the general style of taekwondo. 

Biography
Kim was conceived in Seoul, South Korea in 1920. At the time Korea was involved by Japan. Under their administration hand to hand fighting had been banned subsequent to 1909, however the act of taekkyon was not banned until the year of Kim's birth.

In spite of the Japanese boycott, Koreans still rehearsed hand to hand fighting in mystery, and Kim could concentrate on Judo at the Kodokan from 1931, winning a Black Belt five years after the fact. The boycott did not reach out to Koreans who lived in Japan, and Kim took in Shudokan Karate from its organizer, Kanken Toyama, at Nihon University in Japan. After graduation from Nihon University in the 1940s, he came back to South Korea and was utilized at the Transportation Administration in Seoul. Five Grand Masters honored Kim tenth dan dark belt while in the healing center with liver tumor at 73 years old, and passed on 16 September 1993. Kim was held in high respect in the Martial Arts World, more than 650 individuals went to his funeral. Inducted into Taekwondo Hall of Fame 2009
